I love emerald green, and was very happy when Pantone named it the color of 2013. I’m a big fan! I have green shirts in this shade, and I even have emerald green Chuck Taylors. So, when Kollabora had another one of their Friday Challenges featuring this color, I grabbed my needles and ran with it.
Truthfully, I whipped this up in about an hour and a half. Seriously! US11 needles and worsted weight yarn make this project extra zippy. Instant gratification, something knitters don’t get all the time.
It’s the Poems Easy Headband from my favorite book, 101 Designer on Skein Wonders. Great book. You need to get it. As for the yarn? I found it at Goodwill.

I have finished my two garments that were previously in WIP status!
First, my red sweater is done! And it is way to big for me. Boo! I did a swatch and everything! I guess I didn’t calculate something correctly. It seems whenever I do a Lion Brand Yarn pattern, it turns out too big, even though I do a swatch, and pick my correct size. Lesson? Be more careful with their patterns. Anyone else run into this?
Second, my Yipes! Stripes! Vest is done now, too. It’s not that bad! I added some “mistakes” for interest on it. I did this one for Kollabora’s Friday Challenge that they had a while back and only now finished it.
What’s left? Just my lacy little purple wristers. Therefore, I’m removing the moratorium on myself from starting other projects due to the fact that I can only do lacy things when I have time to concentrate or am not dead tired. Still, they are a priority.
I did it!
I was bored last Friday night. I turned to surfing the Internet, and my browsing came across Kollabora on Twitter. They had a teaser up about a Friday Challenge. It was Friday. I needed a challenge, so I hopped over to their blog entry. The challenge? Black and white stripes!
I love the classic look of black and white stripes. I puttered around on Ravelry, looking for a good pattern. Nothing stood out to me. So, off to my books. I pulled out my trusty copy of One Skein Designer Wonders, and found the Simple Mistake Rib Vest Pattern. The pattern calls for DK or light worsted yarn, but I’m using plain ol’ worsted. And I’m not doing the mistake rib pattern, just plain ol’ 2×2 ribbing.
Ah, and the yarn. I wasn’t sure I even had black and white yarn, but I found a skein of each in Red Heart acrylic in my stash. Eh, good enough.
I’m also alternating white and black yarn. Strangely, I’ve never done stripes like this before. It’s fun!
I hope to have this finished by the end of the week. Things have been on the nutsy end of the spectrum, so I haven’t had much time to sit down with this project.
So that’s the black and white of it right now. Also, take a closer look at Kollabora. It’s a fashion-forward crafting site. Look me up.
